
The food we had was great and the menu had enough other dishes to make sure we come back. However, I don’t think this is the place for a quiet romantic dinner. The space is open with high ceilings and lots of hard surfaces which makes it a bit noisy, but not unpleasant. At the Hays House in Council Grove, a trading post founded by Daniel Boone's great-grandson, Seth Hays, in the 1850s, skillet-fried bird is the star of the menu, along with the house chicken-fried. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and service was quick, even as the place was taking orders for 2 large tables. The food was excellent! The smoked and roast chicken apparently takes 4 days to prepare and cook and I think you can tell because the smokiness is intense and blends beautifully with the caramelisation of the roasted chicken skin. continental lagers, an extensive wine list and great home cooked food for. We shared the smoked and roasted chicken with tarragon jus and the roasted cauliflower with brown butter and almonds. Neppy is the local name for The Old Neptune, Good, food, cold beers and great. There was plenty of space and you didn’t feel you were sitting with strangers. The project required the design of a two-level (140seat) restaurant and bar for locals to experience a taste of the Mediterranean.


We ended up on a group table because we had no booking. Even though it was early (6:30pm) the place was starting to fill up quickly. We walked past Neptune’s early on a Saturday evening and popped in on a whim.
